U.S. Virgin Islands, October 1, 2007 The 8th Annual Pumpkin Cup Golf Tournament will tee off at 9:00 am on Sunday, October 14 at Mahogany Run Golf Course. The tournament sponsored jointly by the USVI Hotel & Tourism Association and the St. Thomas/St. John Ladies Golf Association, supports programs geared toward female golfers and funds clinics to teach young women the sport. Portions of the proceeds raised are donated to the scholarship fund of the HTA. Last year’s donation exceeded $5000.
For the fourth straight year, Veuve Cliquot has signed on as the title sponsor and is the official champagne of the tournament. The 4 per scramble event begins at 9:00 am. There is a $100 fee which includes golf, continental breakfast, golf gifts and the awards banquet. Prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd low gross, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd low net, closest to the pin and longest drive. Bottles of Veuve Cliquot will be available for purchase at a reduce rate.
Early registration will be held on Saturday, October 13 at Mahogany Run Golf Course from 6:00-8:00 pm. All golfers who register early will receive a free glass of champagne.
At 2:45 pm, the ceremonial ball drop takes place. Numbered golf balls, available for purchase at $5.00 each, will be dropped from a helicopter on a designated green. The ball(s) that rolls into the hole receives 50% of the proceeds of all balls sold, of which 3000 are available. One lucky person has the potential to win $7500! If no balls make it into the hole, the one closest to the pin will be declared the winner.
“Our gratitude to the ladies of the Golf Association for organizing this fundraiser every year, said Richard Doumeng, Hotel & Tourism Association Board Chairman. Every participant supporting the event contributes to our goal of awarding scholarships to Virgin Islands’ students pursuing careers in hospitality.”
