US Virgin Islands Hotel & Tourism Association
New USVIHTA board member Akhil Deshwal of Gallows Point Resort is passionate about tourism outreach – whether it’s among locals or visitors. As one of the most recent additions to the board, Deshwal is excited for the opportunity to spread the word about the association.
“I believe all of us can contribute in some way to enhancing the tourist’s enjoyment of being in this island environment, and in every possible way making them feel welcome and special,” he said. “Raising tourism awareness among residents and local businesses can also be a special incentive toward this endeavor.”
Deshwal believes everything locals do to increase tourism awareness directly correlates with a guests’ experience.
“There is nothing more important than getting the guest to come to a place that is absolutely marvelous and spectacular. The guest is almost always right, and if I can do something to make their stay comfortable and memorable, then we are doing the right things in ensuring tourism is a success,” he said.
Deshwal began his career in tourism by obtaining a BA in Hotel Management from one of the premium institutes in India for hotel and tourism studies, the Institute of Hotel Management, PUSA, New Delhi. He went on to earn a MBA in Hospitality Management from Johnson & Wales in Providence, Rhode Island. Deshwal’s passion for the industry has taken him all over the world, and we are excited to now have him here in the USVI!
