US Virgin Islands Hotel & Tourism Association

The Virgin Islands Children’s Museum has begun hosting game nights specifically for teenagers and their adult caregivers. “Teen Time” is a safe, in-person learning opportunity designed to support the students’ social, emotional, mental health and academic needs. This is a great space for families to Explore, Play and Discover together!

There is no cost to the teens and guardians who participate, and transportation is available for some groups. This FREE program welcomes children 12-18 years of age to join us for FUN, FOOD and PLAY conveniently in Buccaneer Mall! No sign-ups are required but due to our capacity limit, we encourage you to pre-register using the links below.

Program administrators ask that Teen Time families not bring younger children to these events designed to give youth 12 + a safe space to interact and learn together.

The VICM has teamed up with qualified mathematicians and undergraduate peer instructors from the University of the Virgin Islands to assist adolescents with math tutoring and board game strategy. All attendees can enjoy a snack/meal and play carefully chosen games known to help with developing critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Professional life coaches from Elevate-Wi will also provide opportunities for students to speak with life coaches while building their interpersonal communication skills through play.

The first Teen Time night took place on Friday October 7th, during which we welcomed over 45 teens and their parents/guardians. Future Teen Times will take place from 5:30-7:30pm tentatively on the following dates. Be sure to visit www.vichildrensmuseum.org/teentime for updates!

Gaming is one of the most promising educational formats to quickly reach a large and diverse set of learners. However, as young people are required to spend a great deal of time on computers, it is important to provide avenues for hands-on interactive experiences via logic building and communication enriching games. We aim to incorporate gameplay into informal STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math) based learning experiences while providing avenues for social and emotional expression.

Please email the Director of Programs, Amber McCammon at teentime@vichildrensmuseum.org if your teen(s) require help with school, managing their emotions or just some time to interact with other youth in a safe space. Be sure to follow the VICM on Facebook and Instagram @vichildrensmuseum for updates!
