US Virgin Islands Hotel & Tourism Association

OSHA wants to highlight the importance of employer awareness regarding the chemicals being used in their establishments, whether applied by an outside contractor or used daily by employees. Safety Data Sheets are available for each type of chemical, providing information on the approved usage, the required protective equipment, any special storage requirements, emergency response information and much more.

To ensure the safety and health of your employees, we encourage employers to confirm that all companies contracted to perform work on-site have implemented these requirements and provided a listing of all chemicals introduced to employees’ work areas. Furthermore, OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (29CFR1910.1200) outlines an employer’s responsibilities when employees are required to work with or around hazardous chemicals. These responsibilities include training employees about Safety Data Sheets as well as how to reduce any potential exposure.
