US Virgin Islands Hotel & Tourism Association
The USVI Hotel and Tourism Association is pleased to announce the promotion of Nyka Carina Etienne from coordinator to manager! Etienne has brought a wealth of knowledge and professionalism to the team, and is an asset to the association. Her primary responsibilities are managing our two key annual events – the Destination Symposium and Tommy Star Awards Gala.
“Nyka came to us four years ago as a college intern and has developed her meeting planning skills immensely,” said USVIHTA President Lisa Hamilton. “She has taken point on all logistics for each event as well as ensured we meet or exceed budgeted revenue. We are proud of her accomplishments and look forward to the continuing development of her leadership skills.”
Born in Dominica, Etienne attended St. Martin’s Primary and Convent High School. She shadowed her father’s deep involvement in church and was an active member of the Young Christian Movement, Holy Family Youth Group, and other Catholic youth sects.
After graduating from the Convent High School, Etienne attended the Dominica State College where she attained an Associates of Arts degree in Business Administration. Her strong foundation in the field of business coupled with her aspirations to work within the field and her intrinsic motivation, propelled Etienne towards pursing higher education. In 2009, she enrolled at the University of the Virgin Islands to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Marketing.
At UVI, Etienne demonstrated a high level of academic excellence and sharpened her leadership skills by being part of the Future Business Leaders of America and the Dominica Students’ Association. In 2011, she graduated with honours after remaining on the Dean’s List throughout her tenure at her university.
Nyka currently resides in St. Thomas and is the delighted mother of a 21-month old daughter.
