We had a special and informative General Membership Meeting in Sept. with two great speakers. The Best Western Plus Emerald Beach Resort hosted nearly 50 association members and our keynote speakers, University of the Virgin Islands V.I. Marine Advisory Service Coordinator Howard Forbes, Jr. and Margaritaville Vacation Club Resort General Manager Alex Tamas.
Forbes’ presentation, 2015 Coast Weeks, highlighted the 30th International Coastal Cleanup. Forbes showed statistics on the amount of trash collected during the 2014 cleanup efforts (10,067 lbs), noting that waste from meals (plates, bottles/cans, wrappers and bags) and cigarettes were the most common source of trash. He reminded attendees of the importance of keeping the territory clean, not just so we can present a beautiful destination to our visitors, but to protect our tropical and marine environments.
